In 1993, the late Pope John Paul II established
World Day of the Sick that was to be celebrated on the Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes, which is celebrated on February 11. This annual celebration was to draw attention to the service of the sick and those who care for them. The Pope saw this celebration as a special occasion for growth, with an attitude of listening, reflection, and effective commitment in the face of the great mystery of pain and illness… for all believers to seek “a special time of prayer and sharing, of offering one’s suffering for the good of the Church and of reminding everyone to see in his sick brother or sister the face of Christ who, by suffering, dying and rising, achieved the salvation of mankind.” (Letter Instituting the World Day of the Sick, 13 May 1992)
SS. Peter & Paul celebrates a special Mass for the Sick and their caregivers once a year. We will also recognize our extraordinary Ministers who minister to the sick throughout the year. At this Mass we will offer the
Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick to all who are in need of it, or wish to avail themselves of it.
Fr. Bony extends an invitation to all parishioners to join in this celebration as a sign of our support and solidarity of prayer for those in need of healing and care. Through the intercession of Our Lady of Lourdes let us pray for the needs of the sick in our parish.
