"For I was hungry and you gave me food..." (Matthew 25:35)
Each month, over 600 local families (over 1,400 individuals) receive supplemental groceries from the St. Vincent de Paul food locker. Among the clients are poor working families with children, seniors (many of whom are widowed), laid off workers and the physically and mentally disabled. No one is turned away.
At St. Vincent de Paul’s food locker, each household is allowed to come in for groceries once every 30 days. On that day, single individuals receive four bags of food: breads, staples, vegetables, and meat. Families with children are given an extra bag of food when available, or something special, like a birthday cake or a turkey!
Where does all the food come from? Throughout the week, several volunteers go out to local retail stores to pick up donations. Others sort, bag and distribute the food at our Giuseppe Court location. Still more volunteers, a very special crew, deliver BAGS of groceries to local home bound people.
For our neediest neighbors, St. Vincent de Paul’s food locker and BAGS programs make the difference between having enough to eat and going hungry.
