Every Wednesday morning the St. Vincent de Paul Medical Clinic opens up for business at 8:30 AM. The homeless and working poor arrive to be seen by a doctor or physician’s assistant and a registered nurse. The health care workers are volunteers and the visits and medications are completely free.
Patients come in for their ailments but what they receive is more than just an exam and medical advice. They get respect, attention, concern and tenderness. The medical clinic’s patients know the doctors and nurses don’t care what they’re wearing or where they slept last night. No one is there to judge them.
On the first Tuesday of every month, a pediatrician along with one of our registered nurses opens up the clinic to check on all of the children in St. Vincent de Paul’s New Beginnings program. It’s a wonderful opportunity to monitor the children’s health, growth and developmental milestones.
TB testing is also offered through the Medical Clinic, as well as a yearly mammography clinic, with referrals for follow-up treatment.
